Catalunya. 7,5 milions de futurs

The exhibiton "Catalunya. 7,5 milions de futurs” ("Catalonia, 7,5 milions of futures) at Palau Robert is a so complete picture of present Catalonia.

There are quite interesting statistics as books publishing; the highest number of women with univesity degree than men; Marc as most popular name in recent born... A whole world of numbers about population, economy, industry...

As far as food items are concerned (the attention of this blog), it is remarkable that ecological agriculture grown a 89% in the last 10 years. Also, the exportation power of catalan wine industry, that exports a 57,4% of production.

The interactive space about different productive sectors of Catalonia was so interesting.

Remarkable is:
- The first Cava is born at Penedès in 1882
- Louis Moritz becomes the pioneer of beer crafting in Catalonia in 1856
- In 1868 "Anís del Mono" is established
- 1870 is the foundation year of Bodegas Torres
- Beer becomes popular in Barcelona when Damm is established in 1876
- In 1919, Danone is founded at Raval, Barcelona
- Raval, also, saw the birth of Cacaolat in 1931

And the side of Services and Turism...

... tells the opening of El Bulli, the year 1962.

Fer mercats, fer ciutat

Since april 4th, it can be visited at Born Centre Cultural, free, the exhibition "Fer mercats, fer ciutat", a review of the markets of Barcelona.

Shown as a sketcher scrap-book, the exhibition shows all Barcelona markets, dividing them in four different stages:

1. The first markets. They are the ones built in a medieval wall contained Barcelona. From 19th century.

2.  Iron and factory materials markets (end 19th century and beginning of 20th century). When the medieval walls were demolished, the city grows and, so, there is a need of buildng new markets (inspired in Modernisn) in villages that became the new quarters of Barcelona.

3. Concrete markets (2oth century). The Spanish immigration wave of 60's caused a quick increase of popullation. This also caused new quarters and, so, the need of new markets.

4. Present. Markets are renovated and they are integrated in bigger structures or are rebuilt.

You can enjoy the exhibition until july 2nd.

"Nutrició, impuls vital" exhibition

There are few days left to enjoy "Nutrició, impuls vital" exhibition at Museu Blau of Barcelona. The last day is May 29th.

It is something no one can miss. It is interesting for people who enjoy cooking and for the ones that eating is something just for living.

It starts with a visual media piece that shows quickly the food fact in a historical perspective. The place where the media is played is also filled with historical data about food.

It was so interesting to now how ancient is bread baking.

And how important was the Egyptian role at food pleasure with beer invention.

A nutritional pyramid gives entrance at the central part of the exhibition.

The big part of "Nutrició, impuls vital" is divided in different parts, where all the exixting food (eggs, cereals, meat, fruit...) is treated and shown.

Scientific theory and playful tones are mixed in a way that accurate information is transmitted in a pleasant and a understandable way.

You cannot miss it. You have a good chance next May 21st at Nit dels Museus.
